I have been drawn to water since birth, literally. As my 4 years old sister was completing a swim lesson, behind my mother and the instructor, I jumped in the pool with only my diaper on. Luckily, they were within arm's reach away and I was safe. Today, I am humbled and excited to work with the Joshua Collingsworth Memorial Foundation to help eliminate drownings around the world. The foundation was started by Blake and Kathy Collingsworth after their two year old son accidentally drowned in a home pool. Over a million people drown each year, the majority children under five. I want to keep water a fun and safe place to be & that is what we are doing at the foundation through the children's book, "Josh the Baby Otter." The founder, Blake, wrote the book as the beginning of their endless drive towards drowning prevention and water awareness. As an avid swimmer and pool-lover, I feel water safety education is absolutely essential for all children, everywhere. If you have any questions about what we are doing in terms of drowning prevention and water safety education and awareness, please email me at laura@josuamemorial.org.
